Ughhh!
I only watched a part of the Grammys tonight, but now I have new insight into my students thoughts when it comes to how they dress. I teach third grade right now, but still I have to watch out that my students are in compliance with the dress code of our school. I watched some of the performers (and award winners) on the Grammys & can't believe how immodest their outfits were! These are the models for our students. They listen to this music (a lot of which is inappropriate for them) and they idolize these singers. They want to be just like them & that includes dressing like them. If the performers can wear this kind of clothing & it is accepted what kind of message are we sending to children?

Just saying, perhaps it is not the people on tv, or the children who need to change their views, but you. I say this because the media will always affect children, and society changes regularly. We cannot expect the performers to wear anything or act differently as they too have been encouraged by their own media. It is inevitable that children won't be influenced, so rather than worrying about the message that it sends, perhaps it would be better to tell the children that the media's view of fashion and celebrities aren't the only opinion that count.
I constantly try to get my students to think for themselves & value others opinions, but I think if we sit back & say "That's just the way society & our celebrities are" then we are giving in to something that will eventually crumble our nation. A general lack of morals when it comes to dress & speech will only lead to a lack of morals in other areas.
