Sometime last year I had this idea that one day I was going to run a 5K. I had a program lined up to help me go from being a "couch potato" to running the 5K. Because of school & moving apartments I never got started with the program. Around mid-February my roommate decided she wanted to get into running. Of course she needed someone to go with her & knew I wanted to start running, but hadn't yet. We went out & ran a mile, something I haven't done since high school. I thought I was going to die~ All I could think of was "Am I nuts?! How will I ever be able to run a 5k???"
Fast forward to this morning where I ran 3.2 miles & felt great afterwards!! (5K = 3.1 miles) It has been only about 3 months since I started running & I can't believe how far I have come. This morning my run was especially wonderful. We ran a "new" route, which included running the road around my apartment complex. As I turned onto the street that runs through the complex & is the final stretch of this morning's run, a new song started playing on my iPod. The song was "The Light in Me" by Brandon Heath. The sun was just rising over the tops of the buildings. Usually I don't like to run with the sun in my face, but this morning it was like God played the perfect song to get my attention as he put his glory on for me to see. I had this burst of energy as I was thinking about how great he has made my life right now, even with the ups & downs I sometimes feel. It was the perfect way to start off any day, especially a Sunday.
I wish I stopped to remember how blessed I am more often than I do, but it is great to have mornings like this when God puts a gentle reminder in my path. I hope you take a moment to stop & remember how blessed you are as well!
